VillainROM 1.0 for Samsung Galaxy S 2

So... After saying last night I had the first custom ROM booting on the SGS2, it seems only fair to share it with you guys so you can get some VillainROM goodness on your SGS2s.

First, a word of warning. I don't have an SGS2. So I can't test this personally. I am a firm believer of testing anything I release on my own phone first. For obvious reasons relating to O2, I cannot do that. This ROM was tested by 12aon on XDA though for me, and it works for him.

So, where I would usually say "works for me", I'll say "works for him". So to the usual disclaimer...
/** You were the one who flashed this ROM. That means if you mess it up, you can only blame yourself. This ROM is tested and working on another device, but yours might be special. It might not like you, or it might want to kill your cat. So keep your cat away from your phone when testing, and be sure you know what to do in the event of problems.
**/
So, without further ado, you will want to know how to flash this? Well, you need to use ODIN to flash this. You flash it as a PDA image. NOTHING ELSE should be checked. NO PIT, no nothing. JUST a PDA. This is a .tar.md5 file, so it will be verified before installing, to prevent corrupt downloads causing trouble. But I still suggest you check the MD5 of the file manually, just in case...

So, to the ROM itself, it is based on XWKE2, should be rooted, and has a few tweaks in place to make it easier for me in future to make modifications to ROMs.

Please do NOT attempt to use Villain Tweaks with this ROM yet. That will cause you all forms of grief, strife and natural disaster. A different version will be made for use with VillainROM for SGS

This ROM is XWKE2, it's rooted, and it has the stock kernel. Unless you are developing or need something else, this kernel will do you fine, as the underlying ROM is rooted

It's fully deodexed, and I've resigned all the Samsung and stock applications with a new key-set, so that it's much easier to make modifications to the apps in future. Villain Tweaks was a project of mine to "test the water" for modifying the apps in the SGS 2 ROMs. I hit issues I couldn't get around, since the pre-installed apps were signed by Samsung.

This means that I can now edit the apps on the phone to apply all sorts of tweaks and "hacks", like the ones I've done so far, but with greater scope as to which files can be modified. For example, I've got a messaging app here (Mms.apk), which should let you send 10 SMS messages together without converting it to an MMS, and allow 200 recipients of an SMS, rather than ten.

But in order for me to release such changes (which a number of people were requesting), I need to have the signing keys used for the applications. So since it's a re-signed ROM, it's nice and easy to release tweaks.

So, tl;dr?

ROM itself is rooted
XWKE2 deodexed firmware
Re-signed to permit much greater scope for tweaks
Stock "touchwiz"

The fun starts once people are using this, and we can have more control over the ROM itself... I'll look at some more of my "to-do" things soon enough anyway, including enabling init.d on the stock kernel, and a few other things...

So... You made it this far? You want the link? OK. Fine
