Hello,
Thank you for contacting us with regards to TeslaUnread. Please read all of the information below as it's very important.
As of March 27th, 2019: TeslaUnread is no longer supported and will not be updated again! Please read below for the full details.
As of December 15th, 2020: TeslaUnread support has been completely removed from Nova 7.x and higher. This feature will not be added back to the launcher in any way at all.
TeslaUnread is no longer available via the Google Play Store per Google's decision. Google has changed things to not allow "unread badges" type apps to no longer work in any way. Therefore TeslaUnread is now unsupported and no longer maintained.
With the release of Nova 7(beta and eventually stable), Nova no longer even has the option to select TeslaUnread as an option. We recommend you switch to using notification badges via Nova Settings -> Notification Badges and there is information below that will help you set those up as they are all handled by Android and not the launcher in any way.
Please note, Dots, Dynamic Badges and Numeric Dots are the replacement for TeslaUnread, however, they work differently than TeslaUnread worked. They are notification based where TeslaUnread was unread based. Unread based badges are no longer a thing due to changes by Google within Android.
If you are using TeslaUnread and experiencing issues as of March 27th, 2019, please note that we can no longer update the app to make it work, make changes or add new features in any way. It's simply not possible any longer. Basically it's a use at your own risk type of thing.
To replace TeslaUnread, there is now a new feature built into Nova Launcher itself that you can enable to get numeric count badges. Nova Settings -> Notification Badges -> Numeric Dots. You must be using Nova 6.1.6(or higher) which was released on April 11th, 2019. You can find more information here: https://help.teslacoilapps.com/versions/6-1. This still requires you to have purchased Nova Launcher Prime as it is a Prime feature just like all Nova notification badges are.
One thing to note is that Dots, Dynamic Badges and Numeric Dots are notification based. What this means is that you must have a notification in the notification bar at the top of the screen for the app icon to get a notification badge. This is what makes Dots, Dynamic Badges and Numeric Dots 100% accurate compared to old methods like TeslaUnread.
Please also note that this wasn't our decision to make these changes but a decision made by Google. This is how all unread badges will be for the foreseeable future as Google has no plans of changing it any time soon.
There are a few things you will need to do to get notification badges working. You must be using Nova Settings -> Notification Badges -> Numeric Dots/Dots/Dynamic Badges
1) You have to have a notification in the notification bar at the top of the screen for the app icon to have a notification badge.
2) Long press on the app icon and click Edit -> App Notification Settings. Everything is handled by the system(Android) and not by the launcher.
3) You have to have notification stuff enabled via your Phone Settings in a global manner on certain devices or they will never work. Not sure where/how to do it for your device, but you can always Google on how to do it.
4) All notification stuff is handled by Android and not the launcher any longer. If you're still not getting notification badges after following the steps above, then it's something else on your device causing the issue or that you haven't enabled.
