Google Project Ara: Developer Kits für Entwickler werden vorbereitet

Es geht mit großen Schritten weiter beim Google Project Ara: Nachdem vor einiger Zeit die Module für Entwickler vorgestellt wurden, werden diese jetzt an interessierte Techniker und Profi-Devs ausgeliefert. Auf dem Google+-Account von Team Ara-Mitarbeiter Eduardo Ruiz heißt es: "We are now accepting requests for dev boards that we demo'd at the developer conference back in April. This is FPGA hardware that corresponds to the v0.11 release of the MDK. It is designed to help with prototyping and development of modules for the Ara platform, including modules for the current (first) prize challenge that we formally announced at Google I/O. We also anticipate making a new set of dev hardware based on the v0.20 MDK platform (which use ASICs instead of FPGAs for UniPro network processing and free up significant space for developer functionality in the modules) after the second developers conference in November 2014." Wer also irgendwo auf der Welt ein Entwickler mit einem passenden Spezial-Gebiet ist, kann sich um ein Developer Kit für das modulare Smartphone der Zukunft bewerben.

Die Ausschreibung, deren Inhalt ihr weiter unten lesen könnt, läuft noch bis zum 18. Juli. Um tatsächlich bei der Auswahl berücksichtigt zu werden, empfiehlt es sich natürlich, nicht einfach nur Interesse an Gadgets zu haben, sondern die Verantwortlichen bei Google auch mit gesammelter Erfahrung in vorhergegangenen Projekten zu beeindrucken. Als Lohn winkt eine Auswahl (sehr) früher Hardware, die es fortzuführen gilt. Wer die Frist verpasst, kann übrigens in einer zweiten Welle bis zum 18. August auch noch teilnehmen. Es geht - so betonen es die Kollegen von engagdet eindringlich - bei dieser Sache nicht um pures Interesse an der Materie, um als Entwickler angenommen zu werden (und sei es auch noch so forciert): Google möchte Konzeptentwürfe sehen, eigene Ideen und Visionen. Schließlich ist dieses Unternehmen bekannt für große Innovationen und zukunftsweisende Projekte. Also zieht man "große" Geister an. In diesem Sinne wünschen wir Google viele gute Geister mit viel Wertschöpfungsverstand, einen Haufen frischer Ideen, viel Ausdauer und gutes Gelingen bei der Reise zum individuellste Smartphone des 21. Jahrhunderts.

You may use this form to apply for development boards, which are designed to facilitate development of Ara modules as defined in the MDK.Your use of these boards are subject to terms in the hardware evaluation agreement located at projectara.com/dev-boards. You must agree to these terms before we can ship you the dev boards.
We cannot ship dev boards to the following countries: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Syria.
You should limit your application to 1 per organization, preferably a designated technical lead who has experience with embedded boards.
We will prioritize requests based on technical experience and the strength of your module concept.
Here is a summary of what to expect after you submit this form:
1) Applications will be reviewed in stages; the current review period ends on July 17, 2014, 11:59pm PDT.
2) The next review period will start on July 18 and end on August 17, 2014.
3) You will receive a notification via email 1 week after the review period ends.
4) If approved, dev boards will be shipped to you starting in late July, 2014.
5) Documentation for the dev boards is available at projectara.com/dev-boards/, you may also email ara-dev@google.com for additional support requests.
